Please submit your renewal information well in advance of your expiration date to avoid lapsing of your license. It is illegal to practice nursing in this state without a valid license. All forms and fees must be submitted on or before your expiration date to avoid lapsing. If you choose to submit paper forms, they can be downloaded at the South Dakota Board of Nursing website.
Online Renewal Process
You can renew your license up to 90 days prior to your license expiration date.
If you are currently under, or have a history of, disciplinary action you will not be able to renew online. You are required to submit a paper renewal form to the Board.

Advance Practice licenses may require information about your collaborative agreement

South Dakota Board of Nursing Online System will allow renewals of Active and Inactive license statuses only. To view additional information on other license statuses, please see the FAQ.
Active – An individual must hold a license in “Active” status to practice in the State of South Dakota
Inactive – An individual cannot practice in the state of South Dakota with an Inactive License. Individuals who have not completed the licensing requirements will have the option to place their license on inactive status.
